If this is your first time renting a car, the counter experience and paperwork can seem like a lot. It is actually simpler than it looks.
Compare car rental prices now and see how much you can save.
Rental agreements are long. Focus on these five: 1) Total charges including all fees and taxes, 2) Fuel policy (full-to-full, prepaid, or other), 3) Mileage limits and overage rates, 4) Insurance coverage you accepted or declined, 5) Return date, time, and location. Everything else is standard legal language.
Before signing, look at every line item. The base rate, airport fees, taxes, insurance selections, add-ons (GPS, seats, additional drivers), and the total. If anything looks wrong or unfamiliar, ask the agent to explain it before you sign. It is much harder to dispute charges after you have signed acknowledging them.
Know the grace period (usually 29 minutes), the late return rate (hourly or daily), and the early return policy (some companies charge more if you return early on certain rate structures). If your flight is delayed and you will be late returning, call the rental company — they can extend the rental and prevent automatic late fees.
Search live deals at your airport and find the best rate for your trip.
